Section through a 1938 Case, which since 1929/30 had featured longitudinal four-cylinder motors in place of the previous cross-motors. The four to one chain final drive was fully enclosed and reduced the maximum torque loads on the differential whilst spreading power over more teeth than conventional gearing.

Harry Ferguson’s argument for lightweight tractors did not even require his brilliant implement lift and draft control ideas to be illustrated to make them convincing.
